The great Indian wicketkeeper-batsman and former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was retained by Chennai Super Kings for Rs 4 crore before the IPL 2025 mega auction. In 2025, he played 14 league matches and scored 196 runs. He also captained the team after Rituraj Gaikwad was injured but could not save the five -time champion team from coming down in the points table for the first time.

After CSK’s disappointing performance in IPL 2025, many fans and former veterans believe that Dhoni will no longer play in the IPL. After the final match of CSK, Dhoni did not give a clear answer about his retirement. Dhoni has been suspense about playing in IPL.
Dhoni said on Saturday that the return of Rituraj Gaikwad will strengthen the batting of Chennai Super Kings in the next IPL edition. Dhoni said in a private event, “We were a little worried about our batting order. But I think now our batting order is quite solved. Rutu (Gaikwad) is coming back. He was injured. But he is coming back. So, we are now quite solved.”
He further said, “I would not say that we (CSK) relaxed in IPL 2025. But there were some flaws that we needed to fix. A small auction is coming in December. There are some flaws, and we will try to fix them.”
